This monster if a car is called Pagani. It was originally developed by the same people that were working for Lamborghini, but they developed their own independent project and celled it Pagandi. This baby uses a 7.2 liter AMG engine from Mercedes, and it goes from 0-60 in 3.7 seconds. As you can see this car not only looks nice, but it preform nice too!
Here is some more eye candy for you:
This is a picture of the Pagani Zonda R
The below picture is that of a Pagani Zonda F:
I labeled the Pagani Zonda as the "New Italian Super Car" because it combines some elements that the "old" Italian Super Cars are missing, and that is unique design. Some people might say that the Pagani looks strange, and it does, but that is the beauty of it! Truth is people get tired of the Lamborghini, and Ferrari design, they want something new, and Pagani brings that in a nice 7.2 liter, AMG, package.
Here is a Top Gear video about this Italian beast!

Keep a track of your car’s consumption!
Want to keep a track of your car’s gas mileage, but you think it might be too much hassle? Well, you might want to take a look at the Track Your Gas Mileage website. With 2 simple steps, it takes care of all the hassle for you.
Now why would you like to keep a track of your gas mileage you say? Well, there are several benefits to knowing your vehicle’s mileage over time. An obvious suggestion would be that you could improve your driving habits and save gas and money at the pump. Aggressive driving alone can lower your gas mileage by anywhere between 5 and 33%. Seeing improvement in your mileage might give you the inspiration to keep driving conservatively and saving dollars.
Another less obvious reason is your car’s health. A clogged filter alone can cause you 10% loss in gas mileage. Other problems like faulty oxygen sensors can increase gas mileage by as much as 40%. Keeping track of your gas mileage you can easy see how much mileage your car used to get, and compare it to how much it’s getting now. This way if your vehicle is losing gas mileage gradually over several weeks or months, you’ll be aware of the problem and you can get it checked.
So how do you calculate mileage? Well, next time you are at the pump, reset your trip meter (or write down your total odometer reading, if you don’t have a trip meter) and fill a full tank. Next time you’re at the pump fill a full tank again, but write down the distance you drove since you last filled the tank before you reset your trip meter again. Then divide the miles you drove by the amount you filled. That’ll give you your miles per gallon (If you’re metric, you’ll want to divide your amount filled by the kilometres driven and multiply by 100 to get Litres per 100Km) for that particular tank.
Sound tricky? Well if you sign up with Track Your Gas Mileage, all you have to do is write down the trip meter readings on your gas receipts at the pump, and bring them home. Plug the data into your account, and all the calculations are done automatically. It keeps a history log for you, with all your fill ups, average mileage over time, and handy graphs to show you development over time. And best of all, it’s totally free!

Get Paid To Drive Your Car
There are lots of websites on the internet that offer all kinds of get "paid to" programs and one of them is to get paid to drive your car.
Is this for real?
What is it?
What does it look like?
This is an example of a car with vinyls that advertise a website. In this case you would have a little trouble removing the vinyls, but it is doable, and it won't ruin your car's paint.
If the idea sounds tempting to you check it out, and most importantly do your research ahead of time!

Spy Shots: Subaru Impreza
This is what the new Subaru Impreza looks like, and if you ask me it is not better then the old one. This one looks like a Volkswagen Golf or a Ford Focus, but the old Subaru had a more unique look to it which made it more likable.

2008 Bentley Brooklands Coupe
This is the introduction of the new car by Bentley and it is done at the New York Auto show which took place earlier this year. The look of the car is something pretty typical for Bentley, but that only means one thing, extraordinary for everyone else. Enjoy this eye candy!

Neons On Your Ride
Most car owners today add neon lights to the side skirts of their and the front and back bumpers of their cars. This practice is greatly influenced by the movie " The Fast and The Furious" and all its sequels as well as from the game "Need For Speed:Underground" and all its sequels.
The addiction of neon lights is a very cheap and effective way to pimp out the looks of your car. There are some cheap alternatives to neon lights, such as LED lights, but the effect that you get is not as good. You know what they say, you get what you paid for.
Good and cheap neon lights can be easily found on eBay, and when you think about it anything that has to do with anything can be found on eBay. In a previous post I wrote about Lamborghini Styled Doors, and there I gave a link to an eBay seller that sells cheap door hinges so that you can convert your ride to a Lamborghini Styled one. So this is one more cheap way ti enhance the looks of your car and you can find it on eBay!

2008 Mercedes GLK-Class Spy Shots
These shots were taken by Hans G. Lehmann and are of the all new GLK-class of Mercedes. The new SUV by the German giant is meant to compete with the BWM X3 and Audi's upcoming Q5. This is the reason why the new Mercedes GLK will be smaller the the usual SUVs made by Mercedes and it will hopefully be more affordable.
Peugeot 308 Spy Shots
These are the three spy shots that are the first official images of the Peugeot 308, which is set to make its debut on the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The pictures are taken by Automedia.
The Peugeot here is hidden with the green covers, because the guys from the company don't want the public to know that its the new car. These pictures were taken while the company was at Africa trying to shoot a commercial.

Volvo coming out with new SUV 2009
The new SUV that Volvo is supposed to launch for mass production in 2009 will be called the XC60 . The new SUV is supposed to be a rival to Land Rover's Freelander. This new car is not officially announced, but the UK magazine publisher autoexpress has "spy" pictures of it. They say and I quote " At first glance, the car in our spy pictures looks like an ordinary XC70. But look closely, and you'll notice it's a test mule wearing a raised and shortened version of the estate's body."
This is a bald move by Volvo as they are not as experienced as Land Rover in making SUVs but I think, based on the cars that they make, that the SUV should be nice, however I don't think it will be able to match up to the Freelander, but thats just me.
The Volvo SUV XC60 will be have a all-wheel-drive system focused for on-road driving because of the fact that Volvo is trying to make more sales. This feature will hopefully make people prefer the XC60 over a regular car. The SUV will be borrowing the Freelander's 128bhp 2.2 L diesel engine, making the SUV a gas burner. Over all the XC60 appears to be nice, but if you prefer class and heritage, then you will definetly get a Land Rover

Audi R8 - Audi's Sports Car
This brand new car from Audio totally changes the way people see Audi, and totally change Audi's image. This new car goes against everything that Audi has ever made, and this was exactly what they were going for. Audi is currently trying to increase its sails in the U. S. because the car doesn't have a good image here. Audi engineers hope that the new sporty look of the car will help Audi's marked in America.
The Audi R8 isn't just innovative on the outside, but on the inside as well. The dashboard includes all the gadgets that you would expect from the S class of Mercedes, or the new Lamborghinis, but now Audi has it too. All these new innovations would probably explain the mind blowing price tag of $112,000 which very few people can afford.
I would say that this car is worth every dollar that they ask for because, first of all it is a German car and everybody knows what that means, and second of all it has a 420 hp , V-8 engine that will blow your mind, making The R8 a real sports car by any standard!

Civic 'Cossie' - Better then the Type-R
When the Honda Civic Type-R came out it was the hottest and sportiest Honda out there. Now the news for the competition got even worst. The engineers from Japan have came up with a new Honda to compete with the Ford Escort Cosworth. As you can see from the picture above, as far as looks go, the Honda Type-R-R or also known as 'Cossie' , has beat the Ford by a lot!
When the new Honda Type-R-R was being created the engineers took the basic Type-R and made some serious modifications to it so that it can not only look more sporty, but actually perform like some of the top sports cars. To achieve that Honda reduced the weight of the car to a minimum. They did that by removing anything from the car that is not absolutely necessary, and there were quite a few things that were removed. The major thing that has been removed from the original Type-R to form the new Type-R-R is the car stereo, and also the sound deadening. To some people these things are very important, but I personally would trade a stereo for some extra torque or a few extra miles added to the top speed. Honda also added new sports seats so that the car is more comfortable for the driver, and so that he can see and maneuver better. The suspension of the car has also been lowered to give the car a even sportier look and better grip of the road.
The most fascinating thing about the new Honda is its engine. The engine of the Type-R-R is supposed to be a secret, but the Honda engineers couldn't keep something so awesome to themselves so they shared the news. The new engine in the car is a 2.0 liter i-VTEC , and for Honda this is something new, because there engines are usually smaller. What is more unusual then this sit that the engine has 250bhp, which is amazing for any car, let alone for a car that has such great weight reduction! In order to get the most of the engines power the new Honda comes standardly equipped with a ECU to help fuel distribution at the different RPMs and to there for help fuel economy.
The new Honda also has a brand new gear system, which allows a 80 millisecond gear change, which means that if this car needs to go fast it can do it very quickly, just by simply flooring the gas and going trough the gears really fast!
The Honda Type-R-R is the best sports Honda so far, because it took all the good things from the originally good Type-R, and replaced all the flaws that it had to make what some will call a masterpiece!

Ford recalls 527,000 Escape SUVs
Ford is recalling 527,000 Escape sport-utility vehicles because of a problem in the antilock braking system that could cause fires, the company said Tuesday.
Missing or incorrectly installed wiring harness seals on the Escape's antilock brake connector could allow water and other contaminates such as brake fluid or road salt to enter the ABS connector causing corrosion.
The corrosion, in turn, could "lead to an illuminated ABS warning indicator, an open fuse, and in some rare instances smoking, melting or burning of the electrical ABS connector," the company said in a statement.
The recall affects 444,880 Escapes from the 2001-2004 model years in the U.S., as well as 82,000 Escapes in Canada, Mexico and Europe, Ford said.
The hybrid version of the Escape is not included in the recall, although the Mazda Tribute, which is essentially a twin of the Ford Escape, is being included, according to spokesperson Kristen Kinley.
Ford said there had been about no reported accidents or injuries. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been investigating the issue.
Under the recall, Ford dealers will inspect the antilock braking system for corrosion and replace it if necessary.

New York Auto Show - Impreza saloon booted out in UK!
Neither the four-door version of the new car nor the sporty WRX variant will make it to British showrooms.
We revealed details of the all-new line-up last week (Top Story, Issue 955), and the family car was displayed at the New York Motor Show in both hatchback and saloon guises. However, the booted model won't come to the UK as the brand seeks to rival the Honda Civic and VW Golf, which both sell in greater numbers with five doors rather than four.
A spokesman said: "We've sold more saloons in the UK as our rally car has always been a four-door, but the next WRC Impreza will be a hatch."
While normally aspirated 1.5 and 2.0-litre five-doors arrive towards the end of the year, performance fans will have to wait until 2008 for the hot STi model. This will deliver 300bhp from its turbocharged 2.5-litre boxer engine.
That means the 225bhp WRX available in the US will be axed here. "We're trying to sell more normally aspirated cars and lower the range's average CO2 output," added the spokesman.

The Best Cars of 2006 - Chrysler 300
This is a big, beefy sedan that's American and proud of it. Sounds simple, but that cupboard was bare for years before Chrysler released its award-winning 300.
Some say that the 300's success is only about its signature grille and muscle-man styling, but it's equally about the muscle under the hood, in the form of the optional 340-horsepower Hemi V-8. Some of the car's excellence can be traced to corporate sibling Mercedes-Benz, which had a hand in the transmission and suspension.
Flaws are few, including mediocre plastics inside and a center control panel with too many dinky buttons. The Hemi shuts down half its cylinders during cruising to boost mileage, though fuel- and price-conscious buyers should check out the 3.5-liter V-6 version.

The Best Cars of 2006 - Audi A6
Judging a luxury car comes down to how well it can juggle. Can it excel in design, performance, features, quality -- all while leaving you thoroughly entertained?
Among $40,000 to $65,000 sedans, the Audi A6 deserves top billing. The four-wheel-drive four-door topped our recent test of five mid-size luxury cars (January 2006) by perfectly balancing beauty and brawn, comfort and sportiness.
The body is modern but not too flashy; the sleek and comfy cabin again asserts Audi's leading position in interior design; the switches and knobs don't feel at all plasticky or flimsy. The 335-hp, 4.2-liter V-8 model is certainly potent, but it's the 255-hp, 3.2-liter V-6 that offers the most muscle for the dollar: That engine has a healthy amount of power but also delivers fuel economy of 21 mpg in city driving and 29 mpg on the highway.

The Best Cars of 2006 - Honda Accord
Despite strong new competition from Toyota and Ford, Honda still sits at the head of the family-sedan table. The Accord is as roomy, comfortable and safe as its main rivals yet still feels more sporty and refined whenever the road throws you a curve.
Four-cylinder, 166-hp models are so smooth, affordable and economical that there's little reason to opt for the 244-hp V-6. The 2006 model gets a mild makeover for the exterior and interior, including new rear-end styling, as well as a new steering wheel, driver's gauges and seat fabrics.
All Accords feature side- and side-curtain air bags, six-cylinder models add standard electronic stability control, and the EX V-6 now offers a six-speed manual transmission.

The Best Cars of 2006 - BMW 3 Series
After serious challenges from Infiniti and Lexus, BMW released a new 3 Series last year, and its subtle gains in power, braking and handling have vaulted the four-door to the top of the pack once again.
The new 3.0-liter inline-six engine now produces 255 horsepower for the 330i. The small four-door remains one of the best handling cars on the road, period.
The interior isn't groundbreaking, but at least BMW's oft-lambasted iDrive controller (a big console-mounted knob that operates almost everything in the car -- and does so in a confusing fashion) is an option here, one you can happily skip.

The Best Cars of 2006
In the next couple of days I will be covering the best cars of 2006, based CNN.
Today's car is Mazda 3. Here is what Money Magazine said about it:
Any shortlist of compact cars is sure to include the Toyota Corolla and the all-new 2006 Honda Civic, but the Mazda 3 is simply a cut above. It's practical and easy on gas, but also stylish and fun to drive.
Sedan shoppers can choose the 3i model's 150-hp, 2.0-liter 4 or the 3s model's 2.3-liter 4 with 160 hp. The handsome five-door hatch gets the 2.3-liter only; that engine is paired with a new five-speed automatic and anti-lock brakes, both of which are standard.
Options include a navigation system and satellite radio. Go easy on extras and a well-equipped 3 can be had for $16,000 to $17,000.
Expect more soon.

Review- The 2007 Lincoln MKZ
As you can see the brand new Lincoln MKZ is very stylish, but that's not all there is to it. The car has this sporty look to it that makes it a target for teenage drivers, and that sporty look is highlighted by the grill of the car and enhanced by the 17 inch wheels. Some other features include a remote sunroof button on the fob. The Lincoln gives you the option to open your sunroof even before you get in the car.
The Interior
As you can see the interior of the Lincoln MKZ is very luxurious, after all it is a Lincoln. On top of all the features that you see here, The Lincoln MKZ has a ultra quite interior, to help you get away from the busy city and just relax. To achieve that Lincoln added thicker windows and extra padding on the side of the doors, and wallah its quite.
Like all other luxury cars, the Lincoln has power seats and it also has memory on the seats. The driver can adjust the seat any way that they like and recall it with a push of a button. The Lincoln can recall up to 2 saved seat positions.
The Lincoln also has a THX II certified sound system. The system is consisted of 14 speakers placed on just the right place to bring your music to you in just the right way.
After you saw it all and you like it you should know that the Lincoln MKZ starts at around $29,950.

Review - Honda Fit
The Honda Fit is the all new "car" from Honda. I say "car" because this is not a mid sized car and its not a mini van either, its both. The Honda Fit is called Fit for a reason. Although it might not look like it it is very roomy. This car has more room on the inside then most SUVs have, but it looks more stylish and it is more gas efficient.
What makes the Fit so roomy is what is know as 2nd-row Magic Seat. What this does is it fold the second row of seats and creates so much room that it makes the room of the SUVs look small. This car is now being introduced because people need smaller cars with more room, and with today's soaring gas prices the Honda Fit is the perfect solution. The Honda Fit 5-speed automatic averages 31 miles/gallon in the city and 38 miles/gallon on the highway, and this is the reason why some people buy this car.
Another reason why people buy it is because the Honda Fit Sport. The Sport model is basically the same except it comes with 15 inch alloy rims and some bumpers and side skirts. The regular model costs around $13,000 and the Sport is about $15,000. The price, the space, and the gas efficiency are some strong reasons for people to consider buying this car, but I personally won't buy it because I don't like that type of cars, but hey that's just me.

Attempt at a New Diesel Land speed Record
British construction equipment manufacturer JCB aims to set a new diesel land speed record with this Bonneville streamliner powered by two backhoe engines. Really. The JCB Dieselmax H1 is motivated by a pair of JCB444 diesels normally used with the company's backhoe models.
The firm announced Thursday that the streamliner is scheduled for an August attempt to break the 33-year-old diesel speed record of 235.756 mph, set by Virgil Snyder in the Thermo King Streamliner. The Dieselmax will be driven by Britain's own Andy Green, holder of the unlimited land speed record.
The two LSR four-cylinder diesels use a standard production engine block, cylinder head and bedplate, upgraded with direct injection, two-stage turbocharging and a host of other mods to boost power output to 750 hp. Redlined at 3800 rpm, each engine produces nearly 1,100 ft-lb of torque. The engines will run with about 75 psi (!) of boost at full power. At 150 hp/liter, JCB claims the Dieselmax engines are the world's highest specific power diesel car engines.

Chevy Impala SS - Every Rapper's Dream
This is the car that every rapper dreams about at night. This particular one is a 1964 Impala SS. These cars, although they might not seem like powerful cars, have a 200 horsepower engine. If you watch rap videos you probably have seen one of those in between the dozens of girls with their boobs half way out of their bra's. This car, hooked up with hydraulics and some 8 inch wheels will make some rapper very happy, or some white spoiled suburban kid who knows?

Lamborghini Murcielago Crash!
Lamborghini makes some of the best cars on the face of the Earth. These cars look sexy, drive fast and crash bad. Some people just can't handle the temptation of the car and decide to speed. Speeding in urban areas is always bad as the video below will demonstrate.
I personally don't feel bad for the guy because he is dumb for speeding in the first place. Also I think that if he had enough money to buy a Lambo he will gave enough to buy a new one, or at least repair this one. Anyway, lets get to the fun part, the crash...
I think that this guy doesn't deserve to have a driver's license!

The Biggest Rims
Also check out The Biggest Rims 2 !
I was looking trough the internet and I saw the picture above. I don't know what kind of a car it is, but I do know that the rims are 40 inches. 40 inches!!! Event 18 wheelers don't have rims that big. The only thing that I am wondering right now is if the car can clear the sign at those indoor parking lots :D ! Enjoy the , most likely, biggest rims in the world!

Whit these specks it is not surprising that the S7's top speed is 248 mph. Just to give you an idea of how fast that is I made a little comparison. The average takeoff speed for the commercial airplane Boeing 737 is 180 mph (source: http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/performance/q0088.shtml) check it if you don't believe me. So this car is basically a airplane on the ground. Actually it is faster then a airplane on the ground, if it had wings it would be an airplane.
This is a nice car with some serious performance, but its not for anybody, as you might have figured out already. The price for a brand new Saleen S7 is about $ 555, 000., so you might want to brake a lot of piggy banks before you could afford one.
Enjoy:

Crazy Car Audio
You know how every car owner wants to put a nice sound system in their car, well these guys put a new meaning to that. I am not going to say much, just look!
Now that you have seen the coolest ambulance on the block you might one to rethink your definition of crazy car audio. Just look how many car batteries it takes to power the whole thing. You cant even listen to anything if the car is not running because the batteries are going to die in about 1 minute. This is just crazy, but I like it!

Pimp My Ride- Lamborghini Style Doors
We all know how cool lambo doors look on cars like this Eclipse here, but most people, like me until a couple of days ago, think that it is something that only the super rich can get, well guess what? It's not! Recently I was looking trough the web and I found a website that sells lambo doors, it's called WingDoors . The prices I saw on the website were just outrageous. They charge well over $ 1000 for two door hinges with 2 or sometimes 4 shock absorbers. I thought that the idea of having lambo doors is really cool and I decided to look for a cheaper alternative and I found it. I thought about it for a second, if you want to buy something cheap that you usually pay a lot for what do you do, and then it hit me eBay! So go here and see for yourself how much cheaper the door hinges are. Look here and see how much cheaper I found them on eBay. So if you have an extra $ 300 and want your car to become a real show stopper, buy lambo doors if not pay for gas with them. I am out, and if you have any questions about lambo doors or would like me to write more about the subject post a comment and I will consider it and greatly appreciate it. Thanks for reading my blog.

The 2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500
The Ford Mustang has never been seen as a race car. In a world with competitors like Lamborghini, Ferrari, BWM and almighty Mercedes-Benz the Ford Mustang seems like a kids toy. In most cases people will be right to assume that the Mustang is not a very good sports car, but when it comes to the Mustang Shelby Cobra, its a totally different story. That is the most powerful Mustang that Ford makes, the engine is a supercharged V-8. It is usually 300 hp (horse power), but when the supercharge kicks in it goes from 300 hp to 500 hp. This car is not only good looking, but it also goes form 0 to 60 in 4.9 seconds. This sounds more like a sports car. The only way to get that kind of performance is to buy the Mustang Shelby Cobra, because the other mustangs just look the same, but preform just like any other crappy Ford. Like a said before what makes the GT500 different is the fact that the V-8 engine in it is Supercharged, giving it that extra boost to send it up there with all the other sports cars.
Enough said about the car, why don't you just see the video and enjoy your eyes, because that car is a piece of candy.

Mitsubishi Evo Vs. Lamborghini Murcielago
You would think that this would be easy to guess, but it proves to be more difficult then you would think. Most people are really impressed when the hear the name Lamborghini, and they should be, but is there a car far more affordable that can actually preform better? The answer is not that simple and it can only be proven by a race. And that is just what I have for you. A race between a Lamborghini Murcielago and a Mitsubishi Evo . The outcome of the race is not what you would expect and, *hint**hint*, it might make you think twice about spending $300,000 + for a Lamborghini when you can get a cheaper car that is actually able to preform better. So enjoy the video and read the conclusion after it.
As you can see the Evo has much better grip on the road, and that is no surprise since the Evo is 4 wheel drive. The Lamborghini is faster then the Mitsubishi but when it comes to high speed turns it doesn't do that good since it is rear wheel drive. In general cars that have rear wheel drive spin off on high speed turns because when you exit the turn the push comes from behind, where in all wheel drive cars, like the Evo, all four wheels are contributing to the acceleration so it helps the cars handling and hence it can take turns faster. I think that having a slower car with better handling is better since you can actually go on a track and race, and most likely win. I am not saying that its bad to have a slow car, but if the handling of that car is bad the only good use of it is on the straight parts of the race track, and if you are on a track that is very curvy, you will most likely loose.
On the other had the Lamborghini is very great looking. The Evo is not bad either, but the Lamborghini is just off the charts. If you have a couple of hundred thousand dollars laying around your house and don't know what to do, buy a Lamborghini, but if you want to race and win and not break the bank buy a Evo! That's it from me until next time!

The world's biggest subwoofer
This is the world's biggest subwoofer to ever be put into a car. On the left is Richard Clark and on the right is David Navone, the creators of this beast. How powerful is it? Here's what Mark Eldridge had to say about it.
The 60-inch subwoofer absolutely has the capability to produce SPL levels well above 180 dB. It is simple math and the laws of physics.
Actually, before designing it, we looked at a comparison between a large number of conventional subwoofers, or a single giant one. After we did the math, the obvious choice was the one giant woofer. It's output displacement is comparable to 160+ ten inch woofers. It can move a lot of air!
The original idea for the giant subwoofer came about in 1994 when Doug Winker, Chris Lewis, and myself were investigating how to create the highest SPL levels, just for fun. The giant sub was the best performance option, but we didn't have the capability or finances to build it at the time. Anyway, that year was when Chris and Doug installed the dual compression drivers with the horn mouth right below the mic location against the windshield. Unfortunately, the horn system was "disqualified" by the head SPL judge because the rules said the competitor could not have any windows cracked open, and Chris' windshield was cracked. I guess it didn't make any difference that the rule was intended to ensure all the windows were rolled up, and there were no openings to the outside that could affect the SPL reading.
Anyway, the 60-inch sub came about in 1997 while I was working with RC and Dave in North Carolina. Tim Maynor wanted to build a new SPL vehicle, and wanted Autosound 2000's help. We looked at the different possibilities for woofer configurations, and with Dr. Eugene Patronis' help (from Georgia Tech), we designed and built the giant subwoofer in about a six week period.
Unfortunately, Tim and his crew didn't realize just how much acoustical power the sub could generate, and didn't build the vehicle to contain it appropriately. Even at less than 1/2 output, the doors were blown off the tracks, and the entire vehicle ballooned in and out several inches. The woofer was installed in the "bread truck" anyway, and it went to Finals not fully tested.
At the Finals in 1997, Alma protested the use of the computer used to control the energy fed to the subwoofer by the power supply, so RC had to try to do it by simply touching two cables together with no feedback, and hope that the energy level was correct when it was set off. As it turned out, it wasn't at the right level, and the speaker's motor simply drove the cone assembly too hard and too fast, and snapped part of the main conecting tube in half. But, it did do 162+ dB with a single positive stroke of the cone before it broke!
The woofer was updated with several modifications after that incident so that it won't have problems with breaking again.
A couple of facts about it...
The cone moves 6 inches peak to peak under full-tilt output.
The actual cone diameter is 54 inches, with the 3 inch wide surround on the outside of that. The radiating surface area is 2,290 square inches. That yields a one way displacement of 6,871 cubic inches. That is equivalent to the displacement of 161 ten inch woofers that move 1.5 inches peak to peak.
The motor is capable of producing 6,000+ pounds of linear force, which is necessary when considering the very large surface area and displacement volume required to produce high SPL levels.
The woofer was designed with the capability to produce SPL levels of 188 dB, which are entirely possible, given an appropriately built vehicle. It is simply a matter of displacement and containment.
It hasn't seen the light of the car audio industry since 1998 for several reasons. First is money... It isn't cheap to haul it around, and unless it would produce some significant return on investment... You get the idea. Basically, it would be a very high price to pay for some entertainment value and bragging rights.
Also, it would not be legal in competition by current rules because it isn't a typical production, commercially available product.
It is still one of my goals to bring it back out, and let it rip a huge SPL number. Maybe someday, it will prove what it can really do. But for now, only a few people have truly experienced its capabilities. It is outrageously loud, and can make you a sick to your stomach when it plays those very low frequencies.
For those that don't believe it can do what it can do, that's your choice. But, I can tell you that it was designed with strict attention paid to solid engineering principles and practices. Believe it or not, given the right vehicle design, structurally built to withstand the acoustical power of the giant woofer, it could easily produce SPL numbers in the high 180's.
It is one of the coolest things ever created in car audio. It's just too bad no major manufacturers recognize what it could do for their marketing efforts, with a little creative effort.
Oh well... Someday...

Concept cars in the Geneva auto show
There are a lot of new concept cars in this year's 77th International Motor Show in Geneva. The car you see to the left is a Mazda Hakaze. It is a new concept car by Mazda that looks like it can go in mass production. I think that the designers at Mazda did a very good job with this concept, because not only is it stylish, but it also looks very useful and versatile. Mazda manged to combine some very stylish looks, that are highlighted by the Lamborghini style doors, with some very familiar to us features like the third row seats that fall forward to make more room.
This car, with its rugged yet stylish design, will be
one of the cars that we will see a lot from in the near future, at least that is what I think. If Mazda puts a reasonable price tag on this SUV I am sure that a lot of people will consider buying it, I know I will...
Now lets take a look at the competition. This is a Assystem City Car. You can decide for yourself, but I think this is one of the worst looking cars of the century. I mean sure it has Lambo styled doors, but that's not what makes a care great. This car looks like an unfinished mini van, and I am not saying that in a bad way. If you want to make a concept car, the car needs to look fast even when its not moving, your car needs to look futuristic and mysterious. Also just for the fun of it, it should have a lot of useless gadgets, I mean after all it is a car of the future, and sadly this car has none of that. Now you might see my point of view better, but I don't know who would like this car anyway.
Now lets move on to a car that is the absolute definition of a "concept car". This is the new concept from Peugeot. This car has the futuristic look that I was talking about, it also has the look of a really fast car, and that is what a concept car should be. Concept cars should not be all about being useful and serving a purpose. They should be about looking cool, and unique and this car not only achieves that purpose, but I can easily say that it surpasses it by much.
Here is another great view of the Peugeot.
Here are some pictures of the other concepts from the show.
I think I am in love...
Cool a flying car!
The first flying car is the first convertible flying car, how cool is that !?
Well these are some of the coolest rides that you will probably never see on the streets, or at least not for a long time, but hey its a little window that lets us see into the future and its cars the coolest thing ever!
